Idols Review

Idols is the second book in the Icons series by Margaret Stohl. The genre is sci-fi and dystopian.

I really like how the title looks
"The Icons came from the sky. They belong to an inhuman enemy. They ended our civilization, and they can kill us. Most of us. Dol, Ro, Tima, and Lucas are the four Icon Children, the only humans immune to the Icon's power to stop a human heart. Now that Los Angeles has been saved, things are more complicated - and not just because Dol has to choose between Lucas and Ro, the two great loves of her life. As she flees to a resistance outpost hidden beneath a mountain, Dol makes contact with a fifth Icon Child, if only through her visions. When Dol and the others escape to Southeast Asia in search of this missing child, Dol's dreams, feelings and fears collide in an epic showdown that will change more than just four lives - and stop one heart forever."~Goodreads

I put reading this off for a while for many different reasons. The first being I seemed to always pick up a different book first and the second that a third hasn't come out. I would wonder if Idols  resolved everything or the books weren't continuing. After finally reading it. I definitely want a third book. The suspense was building and after finishing it I was like WOAH, that seriously just happened. I did not see the twist coming.

It's a easy read most of the time. The science talk that was in the comlogs or notes was more complicated. However, some of the sentences are fragments, or at least appear that way to me. That kind of took away from the book, since I would have to go back and try to figure out what the sentence was saying.

There is a love triangle, sadly. It was truly annoying at first. Please Dol, get your emotions in check. She basically wants one guy the whole book and then second guesses herself sometimes along the way. What even? I had a hard time liking Ro when there was romance taking place. I liked him better toward the end when he straightens out, I guess you could call it.

I also really liked the aspect of the human emotions throughout the story and how it was being brought to light more and more as the story progressed.

I can't say this will be my favorite read of the year, but I enjoyed it a lot and am still hoping more from the Icons world will be released.
