Partials Review

Partials is written by Dan Wells and is the first book in the Partials Sequence. It's dystopian with some sci-fi.

12476820"Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with Partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island. But sixteen-year-old Kira is determined to find a solution. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that that the survival of both humans and Partials rests in her attempts to answer questions about the war's origin that she never knew to ask.

Playing on our curiosity of and fascination with the complete collapse of civilization, Partials is, at its heart, a story of survival, one that explores the individual narratives and complex relationships of those left behind, both humans and Partials alike—and of the way in which the concept of what is right and wrong in this world is greatly dependent on one's own point of view."~Goodreads

Shout-out to my friend for letting me borrow this for quite a while! I get fed up when someone has my books for a month. If you ever find this, you know who you are.

For starters: I'm sick of figuring out the plot twists early on in books. This was another one of those. I know hints can be dropped but make it less obvious, please authors, I'm begging you.

There's lying and betrayal. I would like to punch some of the characters for that. However, some of the senators and Haru were the worst. The most of the senators were power hungry and bad in other areas. Haru has the worst grudge of them all and always has to be right. Let's just say he's my least favorite in the book.

I would have rated it higher, but I found at least five errors, not all of them spelling or grammatical.

Don't worry, he's alive (the good guy). Two paragraphs later: and he's dead! There seemed to be more good than bad guys dying. Yes, I know the characters will die here and there, but there were people dying who, in my opinion, didn't need to be.

Once I got into the story it was fantastic! The action drew me in. However, I don't care about the kudzu that's everywhere when they're trying not to get arrested. Some of the medical parts I had a hard time keeping up with. Sometimes new perspective is needed, and the older doctors didn't seem to realize that, hence Kira going to find the cure for RM. Go her for seeing the gaps in the information! Kira and Marcus have the cutest relationship.I feel kind of bad that the world is getting in their way.

I honestly don't even care if the war happens. I just want to know all the secrets that haven't been revealed yet.

"I am stronger than my trials."

"Yoon nodded. 'Horses, dogs, cats, you name it. I had a pet penguin for years before I joined the Defense Grid.'" (See, I can have a penguin as a pet too!)
