After Impact Review
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The release date isn't until April 2016. After Impact is the first book in the series written by Nicole Stark. The genre is dystopian.
"At first, HOPE (Humanity's One Plan for Escape) habitat appears to be a well-oiled machine, preparing 5,000 carefully chosen inhabitants for a new Earth. However, a medical assistant named Ilium reveals that certain members of the habitat have been falling ill from a mysterious virus they were inoculated against. Soon, HOPE habitat's tranquil illusion is shattered as Avalon plays a perplexing message left by her father. If Avalon is to survive this dangerous new environment , she will have to find the strength to navigate a habitat enveloped in secrets."~Goodreads
Stark's writing pulled me in from the very beginning. The mysteries started happening almost immediately. The main characters aren't oblivious to the fact that suspicious activity is occurring.Though there was not huge action or battle scenes, I still loved it.
Avalon and Ilium are literally willing to do almost anything to stop the bad guys. There were so many twists and turns that were hard to see coming that it kept me on my toes the whole time. And the biggest plot twist of all? I definitely never saw that coming. The story ended pretty good. No major cliff-hanger but enough to desire to know what happens next.
As far as romance goes, it plays a part in this story. There is sort of a love triangle going on. I think mostly they just all want someone to care for them again and there's nothing wrong with that. I seriously wonder what will happen to them now that a certain event came around. Will they be free to do whatever or did other causes get to them first?
Avalon made a really good point when threatening the president. Their society couldn't function without the "middle class". It's kind of like our world today. Sure, the politicians can be smart, but they don't necessarily know how to grow food. I liked how the young adults actually were smart. You can speak three languages? That's so cool, especially with the Italian sentences.
I am now eagerly awaiting the next book (which is going to be one long wait).
