The Lost Hero: The Graphic Novel Review
The Lost Hero: The Graphic Novel is by Rick Riordan, adapted by Robert Venditii, and the artwork is by Nate Powell. It's an adaptation to The Lost Hero.
I do not advise reading this review if you have not read Percy Jackson and the Olympians or The Lost Hero.
"Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea--except that everything seems very wrong.
Piper has a secret. Her father has been missing for three days, and her vivid nightmares reveal that he's in terrible danger. Now her boyfriend doesn't recognize her, and when a freak storm and strange creatures attack during a school field trip, she, Jason, and Leo are whisked away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood. What is going on?
Leo has a way with tools. His new cabin at Camp Half-Blood is filled with them. Seriously, the place beats Wilderness School hands down, with its weapons training, monsters, and fine-looking girls. What's troubling is the curse everyone keeps talking about, and that a camper's gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist they are all--including Leo--related to a god."~Goodreads
I typically don't read comic books or graphic novels. To me it never feels like the whole story is being told-- as evidenced by The Lost Hero. There are parts left out to shorten it, but it was a nice little refresher about the majority of the story. The humor was still there (thank goodness). And while all the artwork wasn't my favorite (such as the giants), I think it was still pretty good.
I'll admit, I didn't care for Jason or Piper when I first read the book. After reading this I'm shipping them even more, and even though they'll never replace Percy and Annabeth I still love them. Same goes for Leo.
In my opinion, it would be cool to have a short story on the Titan War from the Romans point of view. They fight different from the Greeks and it's almost like the other half of the story. I definitely advise reading the actual book before the graphic novel. Everything would make more sense.
This being my first graphic novel, I have to say I really enjoyed it and it was nice to dive back into the world (though it could never top the book).
