Sneak Review
Sneak is the second book in the Swipe series by Evan Angler. It is juvenile dystopian.
"When Logan Langly backed out of getting the Mark and went on the run, no one thought he could survive on his own. Without the Mark, you can't buy food, go to the doctor, or use a tablet--you aren't even a citizen.
But when he discovers that his sister is being held in a mysterious hidden prison named Acheron, Logan risks everything to travel through an underground network of the Markless to rescue her.
Logan arrives only to find that Acheron holds more secrets than anyone could have guessed and that all his careful planning is worthless against a government that will do anything to gain absolute control. It seems there is only one place to turn. But can a banned book with whisper-thin pages and warnings about the real meaning of the Mark really hold the Answer?"~Goodreads
The author's note was a refresher of what happened in the first book, which is good since I read book one called Swipe several years ago. I liked how it tied directly to the story (even the About the Author does too).
I've never seen a dystopian society like the one Angler has created. Considering there are dozens out there, I find that impressive. His series dragged me in and I wanted to keep reading to whole time. There was hardly a dull moment. Not only that, the story-line keeps getting more complex. If I thought it was all twisted up before, it definitely is now. That's great, because you don't know what to expect. Even with the characters. There are many layers and you don't know what they'll decide to do next.
All the technology that's mentioned astounds me. Some of it would be so cool to have, like foldable tablets. Other stuff such as the surveillance equipment not as much. And I personally wouldn't want to be on a highway five stories in the air, no thank you.
There are some name inconsistencies. It confused me because the character wasn't supposed to be there. After flipping back and forth I figured it was a mistake (one that the editors should probably fix for future copies.) Other than that I didn't have a problem with the book.
For dystopian fans out there, the Swipe series is a must read. The plot, characters, and world are so fantastic. I guarantee you'll eat it up (if you don't believe that, here is another review to check out). Now I need to get around to buying the third installment.
