Insurgent Movie Review

Image
So I know I'm late at seeing this movie and that this review might mean absolutely nothing. However, I still wanted to put my thoughts out there. This review is going to cover the movie from a book standpoint and a film standpoint. I did read the book three years ago, so if my information is incorrect, kindly let me know. " Now on the run from Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and the rest of the power-hungry Erudites, Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) search for allies and answers in the ruins of Chicago. They must find out what Tris' family sacrificed their lives to protect and why the Erudites will do anything to s top them. Side by side, Tris and Four face one seemingly insurmountable challenge after another, as they unravel the secrets of the past and -- ultimately -- the future of their world. "~Google For being a book to movie adaptation, it didn't do so well. There were things they kept, but ultimately they changed the book. There was still some ...

Happily Ever After Review

Image
Happily Ever After: Companion to the Selection Series is written by Kiera Cass as romance with a hint of dystopian. If you have not read the first three Selection books, I would advise you not to read this review. The contents of Happily Ever After are as follows: -The Prince (with the two bonus chapters), Maxon’s novella -The Guard, Aspen’s novella -The Queen, Amberly’s novella -The Favorite, Marlee’s novella -Three scenes from Celeste’s POV -Lucy’s scene (bonus scene from The One) -The bonus epilogue -Where are they now? -A map -Various illustrations Not very helpful if you ask me. For the Prince, Guard, Queen, and Favorite, summaries are available on the novella on Goodreads. The Queen I am sad to say I didn't enjoy this story as much as I though I might. Don't get me wrong, I liked seeing what happened before the books took place, and I feel like I understand Amberly better now. But compared to the other three it's not my favorite, though it's a cut...

Pegasus Mini Review

Image
Pegasus is a historical fiction romance written by Danielle Steel. It is a stand alone. " This is a story of courage, friendship, and fate as two families face the challenges of war... and the magnificent stallion that will link them forever. Nicolas von Bingen and Alex von Hemmerle, titled members of the German aristocracy, have been best friends since childhood. Both widowers, they are raising their children — Nick’s two lively boys and Alex’s adored teenage daughter — in peace and luxury on the vast Bavarian estates that have belonged to their families for generations. While Nick indulges in more glamorous pursuits, Alex devotes himself to breeding the renowned white Lipizzaner horses that enthrall audiences throughout Europe with their ability to dance and spin on command, majestic creatures whose bloodlines are rare and priceless. But it is Nicolas’s bloodline that changes everything, when his father receives a warning from a high-ranking contact inside the Wehrmacht...

Liberty Review

Image
Liberty is the second book in the Citizens of Logan Pond series, written by Rebecca Belliston. The genre is dystopian and clean romance. " Chicago is burning, a rebellion rises, but that’s the least of Carrie’s concerns. Patrolman Simmons is assigned new partners who threaten the security and secrecy of Carrie's clan. Tensions are high, lines are drawn, and Carrie feels a wedge growing between her and Greg.   Haunted by past mistakes and impending tragedies, Greg knows he should distance himself from Carrie. He knows he should let her love the patrolman who can save her and her siblings, especially with money and resources dwindling. But knowing and doing are different matters. He's busy hatching a plan to salvage things when his citizenship backfires, and he’s asked to do the unthinkable. In this stunning follow-up to Life, loved ones are lost, allegiances are tested, and old enemies plot revenge. At every turn, the citizens of Logan Pond must ask:  What price would yo...

The Lost Hero: The Graphic Novel Review

Image
The Lost Hero: The Graphic Novel is by Rick Riordan, adapted by Robert Venditii, and the artwork is by Nate Powell. It's an adaptation to The Lost Hero . I do not advise reading this review if you have not read Percy Jackson and the Olympians or The Lost Hero. " Jason has a problem.   He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea--except that everything seems very wrong. Piper has a secret.  Her father has been missing for three days, and her vivid nightmares reveal that he's in terrible danger. Now her boyfriend doesn't recognize her, and when a freak storm and strange creatures attack during a school field trip, she, Jason, and Leo are whisked away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood. What is goi...

Mark of Thief Review

Image
Mark of the Thief  is the first book in the series written by Jennifer A. Nielsen. It's hard to fit this book into just two genres because it has adventure, magic, mythology, and much more. When Nic, a slave in the mines outside of Rome, is forced to enter a sealed cavern containing the lost treasures of Julius Caesar, he finds much more than gold and gemstones: He discovers an ancient bulla, an amulet that belonged to the great Caesar and is filled with a magic once reserved for the Gods -- magic some Romans would kill for. Now, with the deadly power of the bulla pulsing through his veins, Nic is determined to become free. But instead, he finds himself at the center of a ruthless conspiracy to overthrow the emperor and spark the Praetor War, a battle to destroy Rome from within. Traitors and spies lurk at every turn, each more desperate than the next to use Nic's newfound powers for their own dark purposes. In a quest to stop the rebellion, save Rome, and secure his own...
